petanque gamePétanque is a sport that falls into the category of boules sports, along with lawn bowls and crown green bowling. In all of these sports, players or teams play their boules/balls towards a target ball.

In pétanque the objective is to score points by having boules closer to the target than your opponent after all the boules have been thrown. This is achieved by throwing or rolling boules closer to the small target ball, officially called a jack but known colloquially as a cochonnet or by hitting the opponents' boules away from the target, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground.

The game is normally and best played on hard dirt or gravel.

petanque members

The group is a mix of experienced and novice / beginner players.  The game is easy to play and the craic is good.  It's a non-competitive group, very relaxed and if you have only 45 minutes or an hour to spare, that's fine.

The new season will start in April 2024.

If you would like to play, or see what it's all about, please contact the Convenor for more information.
