Pétanque is a sport that falls into the category of boules sports, along with lawn bowls and crown green bowling. In all of these sports, players or teams play their boules/balls towards a target ball.

In pétanque the objective is to score points by having boules closer to the target than your opponent after all the boules have been thrown. This is achieved by throwing or rolling boules closer to the small target ball, officially called a jack but known colloquially as a cochonnet or by hitting the opponents' boules away from the target, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground.

The game is normally and best played on hard dirt or gravel.

Our new group was just about to start when the lockdown restrictions began.  However, once these are lifted we propose to start playing.  We will play throughout the winter, weather and Covid restrictions permitting.  Getting out in the fresh air and keeping active, along with socially-distanced companionship, is very important at this time and this is our aim, along with good fun.

If you would like to play, whether experienced or a beginner, please get in touch with the Convenor for more information.
