U3A Bridge Congress in Portstewart
Portstewart Golf Club very generously hosted this year's Bridge Congress which took place on Friday 19th October. We had representatives from Belfast, Causeway and North Down & Ards. The facilities provided were first class and the views from the clubhouse were breathtaking. we were very lucky to enjoy wonderful sunshine.
The day started at 10:30 with coffee and biscuits and the opportunity to meet up with old and new friends. We played 11 tables in 2 sessions, morning and afternoon. The lunch provided was excellent and the buzz in the dining room was evidence that everybody was having a great time.
We finished at around 3:30 and some of us went for a long walk on the magnificent beach just a few minutes away. Where else could we find such a perfect combination: bridge, good 'craic', excellent food a brisk walk ans marvellous scenery.
North Down & Ards were very ably represented by 12 delegates and we are delighted to report that they did us proud. Ann Simpson & Jillian McCracken came first, Muriel Sim & Pat Thompson came third and Heather Cummings & Maureen Spring came fourth.
Some of our delegates were so keen they even went the night before and stayed at a B&B. By the 'fragile' state of some of them the next morning I was suprised they mamaged to play bridge!
Congratulations to Causeway U3A for their excellent organisation of this annual event. Hopefully next year we will have an even better turnout.
